Losing your artwork is a nightmare for every digital artist.
Imagine you have followed my flower drawing tutorial and thinking you have saved the artwork in your gallery, then you go to sleep, but when you wake up the next morning, it’s gone.
The truth is, just saving your artwork in your gallery is not enough, disasters can still happen. ibisPaint X crashes? Artwork gone. Device crashes? Artwork gone. Accidental delete? Right, artwork gone. So, how do we keep this nightmare from becoming real?
Saving images is not enough!
Just saving your art as PNG or JPG might not give you enough security. Sure, it gives you your final piece, but that’s all! It doesn’t save your layers and processes. What if you lose it? Everything will be gone and you might need to redraw the whole thing from scratch!
IPV is the lifesaver
Luckily, ibisPaint X gives us a lifesaver, the IPV format. IPV stands for ibisPaint X Artwork. This format doesn’t just save the image, it saves literally everything! It saves all your layers and your entire progress.
By saving your artwork in this format, you can reopen your artwork anytime and pick up exactly where you left off. You can even open your artwork on another device! Here’s how:
1. Click on the work that you want to save
2. Tap the share button around the bottom right of your screen
3. Select the IPV button
4. Click 'save to device'
5. The IPV will be saved to your device
Now your IPV is saved to your device. You can save it to other storage like the Cloud and Google Drive for extra safety. If you ever want to change something in your artwork, you can just open the IPV file again.
You can do this every time you are finished with your artwork. Don’t ever let your masterpiece disappear! Make it a habit to always back up your work!
